Abstract
Objectives£º Subjective recovery from mental illness from the consumer perspective has drawn popular attention recently with increasing activities from mental health consumer movements. However, few studies on factors related with subjective recovery have been conducted in South Korea. This study was conducted to assess changes in patients with schizophrenia from the subjective point of view and to identify the factors associated with subjective recovery.

Methods£º The subjects were 103 patients with schizophrenia living in the community. The Korean version of mental health recovery scale was conducted on the subjects to assess the degree of subjective recovery. To assess demographic characteristics, clinical factors, psychopathology and psychosocial functions, BPRS, BDI, PSP, and Happy QoL were performed to identify the correlation with subjective recovery.

Results£º There was no significant correlation between general demographic factors and each scale. However, there was a positive correlation between total income and the total score of mental health recovery scale. Although the total score of mental health recovery scale showed a significant positive correlation with the total score of brief mental symptom measuring scale and total QoL score, it showed no significant correlation with the total score of psychosocial functioning scale.

Conclusion£ºSubjective recovery was correlated with psychopathology, but was not correlated with psychosocial functioning. This result indicates that subjective recovery in schizophrenia is a different concept from service provider oriented clinical recovery. However, the different results between subjective recovery and each of two indicators of clinical recovery should be further investigated.
